Alexander Kashumov is a Bulgarian lawyer working in the field of administrative, civil and criminal law in Bulgaria. He is a well-known international expert in the field of access to information and good governance, freedom of expression, personal data protection, and protection of classified information, anti-corruption, human rights, anti- discrimination, administrative and judicial reform.
Alexander Kashumov is a litigator in national courts and the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
Over the last 24 years, he has worked as an expert and head of the Legal Team of the Access to Information Program (AIP). He was also assigned for many missions by organisations such as the Council of Europe, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the United States Agency for International Development, the Open Society Legal Initiative, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Friedrich Erbert Foundation, AccessInfo Europe, GTZ, Planet, Nicolaas Witsen Foundation, and others.
He has consulted the Bulgarian and Montenegrin Government, the Commission on Former State Security Files, the Archives State Agency, the Parliament, ministries and others. He is a member of the Global Right to Information Rating Advisory Council.
He was awarded the Lawyer of the Year Award by the Legal World magazine in 2008 and the Best Case Award in 2016.
