In 2005, AIP received Templeton Award in the category "Ethics and Values" for its efforts to make the work of the Bulgarian government more transparent and accountable by conducting research, giving opinions and representation in court cases.
In 2010, AIP was awarded a Plaque for Active Activity and Assistance in Opening the Archives of the Communist Secret Services and a Certificate for the Ascertaining of the Commission's Reputation. AIP has for several years submitted to the Commission legal opinions on matters related to the application of the law on dossiers. The head of the legal team of AIP, Alexander Kashumov, has repeatedly participated in meetings of the Commission on the discussion of these issues and provided advice in a number of cases. In 2006, AIP was among the organizations that supported the adoption of the law on dossiers and assisted in formulating the provisions related to access to the documents of the former State Security Service.
On December 9, 2011, on the eve of International Human Rights Day, at a solemn ceremony in Studio 5 in Sofia, AIP received the Special Prize for a Overall Contribution to the Protection and Assertion of Human Rights in Bulgaria. The Human of the Year Award was handed by the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee.
